Variable Rate Sanders (VRS)

Our Variable Rate Sander systems (VRS) utilises the latest technology to interface with the wheel slip protection (WSP) system by delivering the optimum sand output based on the speed of the train. The system can deliver up to 7kg per minute and has had successful trials with RSSB with drivers commenting on the improvement in braking distance. This mitigates the risk of Signal Passed At Danger (SPADs) and reduces the number of wheel flats, therefore lowering maintenance costs.

This includes as standard:

  • Standard sand hopper that delivers sand at variable rates with the options of being controlled by either:

  • EP Box CPU controlled

  • Software controlled to achieve optimum variable rate sand delivery

Optional extras:

  • Electric heater to remove moisture from sand for improved delivery and prevention of corrosion

  • Level sensors to monitor the quantity of sand remaining in the hopper

  • Filtration and coalescer to prevent corrosion and to protect sander pneumatic system

  • Bespoke hopper to better suit the application e.g larger capacity or where there is a non-standard space envelope
